The ECNL recruiting timeline, class by class

Families usually ask the same first question: "are we behind?" The honest answer is that most of the panic in girls' soccer recruiting comes from not knowing which dates carry weight. A handful do. The rest is season-by-season work that compounds quietly.

The one date that governs everything

For NCAA Division I women's soccer, college coaches may not contact recruits, no calls, no personal emails, no DMs, no verbal offers, until June 15 after her sophomore year. Everything before that date is preparation; everything after it moves fast. A 2029 player's June 15 lands in 2027; a 2030 player's in 2028.

Freshman year: build, don't chase

The freshman season is for the foundation: a profile page that's accurate and current, honest film from full matches, a first pass at a target list built around the family's real constraints, location, cost, academics, role. Emails sent to D1 coaches this year mostly age out of an inbox before they can be answered. What doesn't age out: film libraries, transcripts, and a player who knows why her list looks the way it does.

Sophomore year: the aiming year

Now the target list earns its keep. Showcases and league events get scheduled against the list, not against habit. Film gets cut for the positions she actually projects to. In the spring, outreach gets drafted and staged so that on June 15 her introduction is sitting in front of the right staff, not being written that week in a rush.

June 15: what actually happens

Coaches who already know her name make contact quickly. Coaches who don't will not magically discover her that morning. The families who describe June 15 as calm are the ones whose preparation made the first conversations feel like continuations rather than introductions.

Junior year: conversations become decisions

Campus visits, ID camps at schools that are genuinely recruiting her, and the first honest money conversations. Lists shrink. This is also the season to walk away from programs that are polite but not moving, a hard skill, and a valuable one.

Senior year: confirmation, not discovery

For most players the senior fall is about finishing well and confirming fit, applications, and aid. A senior-year scramble is recoverable, rosters change late every cycle, but it is the exception, and it is harder in every way.
